What power is needed to see a good 50 - 100 yards? I had a Barska 20x60x60 from Cabela's and although the magnification was a little better than my $14 Tasco 12x25 binoculars. They weren't worth it, seemed kind of dark so I returned it.
I'm not familiar with the scope powers, but I'm looking for something inexpensive for my needs.

Shoot:

75% @ 50 yards
20% @ 100 yards
5 % @ 200 - 300 yards (not very often and when I do I usually have to move up)

I asked a similar question as did another 3 days ago.  Most suggestions pointed to a scope by the name of Konus.  It can go to x60 and has an 80mm lens.  It compared almost idenically to a $900 KOWA scope and was only $219. Every review I could find was pleased with it.

I ordered it and it should be arriving today and will be able to test tomorrow.  This will be the first spotting scope I have ever used, but I will let you know how it goes.

Did you try your Barska on the actual range?

FWIW I have one of the 20x60 Barska Blackhawks....50-100 yards, no problem at all.  Sure its crude, but 223 holes are certainly seeable enough at 200 yards, especially if using a shoot'n'c target.  300 yards really pushing it for 223 but still OK for 308....although the thing is quite badly affected by mirage.  Sub $100, you are kinda limited to the el cheapos, and they are all much of a muchness (Barksa, UTG,Leapers,NCStar etc - all the same).

I have heard very good thing about the KONUS scopes as the poster above states although I have yet to see one.

You had more than enough glass for the job, but the clarity is the issue. The Konus is supposed to have excellent glass, and that is going to help drastically.
