Is there a more favorable position to mount the optic on the rail. Obviously you want it away from the rear BIUS so as to access the switches, but was wondering if there was an advantage to mounting it further up the rail or as close to your cheeck weld as posible what does the brain trust say?

Try both and see which is more comfortable for your eyes. I run my optics pretty close to my BUIS. It just depends on what works for each individual. There almost is no incorrect position!

Since the 512 is a long optic, it takes up a lot of rail space. To access the rear BUIS and EOTech controls, you're going to have to install it as far forward as possible.
