Hey Everyone,
Well after an extended absence I'm just about ready to make my purchases. I'll be going with the BCM MID-16 MOD2 (once they are accepting orders again), replacing the fixed front iron with the BCM/Troy folding front battle sight (to match the rear). I want to go with the Vortex Strikefire Red Dot/Green Dot for my optic for now as a budget-concious option that people here recommended. I'm not sure about the mounts, though. I like a clean, low profile look. As such I'd like to use the low mount, but there is a note on the Vortex website about the lowount being for carry handle mount, which isn't what I'm looking for. So my question is, can I run the low mount right on the flat top? Or will I need to run a higher mount? Thanks in advance! |

First off.. you don't want to buy the MOD2 if you are going to put a folding sight on that handguard.. it's a drop in, and will not allow you to zero the front sight. No sense is wasting the cash on a non free float handguard if you plan on mounting a front sight to it. I personally would keep the front sight base, but that's me.
Second.. I'd save the money on the Vortex and practice with irons until you're ready to put an optic on that rifle that matches it's quality. Kind of like buying a Porsche and expecting it to handle with the Wal-Mart special tires you put on it to save a buck |

I just ordered and received the Red Dot only version of the StrikeFire from Primary Arms w/the extra-high mount. The mount provides an Absolute Co-Witnessnot a 1/3 Co-Witness...which is what I personally like & prefer. You need to try both to determine what's best for you...I started off with the 1/3 Co-Witness on my EoTech's and hated it - switched over to the absolute and it's perfect for me. Sakic #19 |

here are some pics of my vortex with the high factory mount on a stag arms 16 inch upper
http://i.imgur.com/zg7b4.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Lcqeb.jpg I have it mounted a little back so I can still get the top hand gaurd off. It has held zero for over 1000 rounds, and the majority of the time the rifle is just thrown in my back seat, not in a hard case or anything. My only complaint is I would like a smaller dot, and the lens covers are difficult to close if you don't put a little lube on them. |
