Hello, I am new to the forum so please excuse my ignorance, if this is in the wrong section or it is already posted I do apologize for the repitition. I just purchased my first AR, I got a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 with Full MagPul, the guy i bought it from had an ACOG so there was no BUIS on it. I have the "low pro" gas block (sorry if my verbage is incorrect), that sits slightly lower than my top picatinny rail on my quad rail handguard. I am looking for sights that sit on the gas block and will create a same-plane aperature (still with me?) But it can not be plastic or anything like that because from what I am told it would melt when fired heavily. Please if possible give me some guidance on this and let me know i am not completely off base. I can post pictures if my description is not good enough, but i fell like this is a common occurance. Please feel free to suggest any particular sights (front and back flip up included). Thank you for reading and bearing with me, I will catch on quickly.

i have a flat top s/w optics ready. did extensive research and there are 3 sets of 'same plain' iron sights. will post later today. this is a common question and needs to be a sticky. am at work and need to get a project done. magpuls will not work because the front sight will melt on the gas block. i skipped iron sights (and I love iron sights... see my signature) and run a 2x7 x32 vortex viper scope only.

What you are looking for is a "gas block height" sight. A "same plane" sight is one that is to be mounted on either your railed hanguard or a gas block of the same height as your hanguards.
As mentioned, YHM has two options for "gas block height" sights, a fixed sight for around $35 or a flip up for double that. I opted for the fixed sight on my upper, as I am using it with a mil spec'd carry handle rear sight. |
