I'm getting close to ordering a red dot and there are two options for mounting, a canted and non-canted mount.  Can I get pictures of both? I'm confused on exactly what "canted" is meaning.  Is this mount going to be canted forward, or off to the side?  Thanks

Canted sights are those that are askew or crooked in some manner.  Not good.

The word you are looking for is "cantilever".  Google will answer what a cantilever is and what it looks like.

For an RDS on an AR-15, a cantilever mount will put the dot further away from the shooter's eye.  Some folks like them closer, others like them further away.  On a true 1x RDS like an Aimpoint, eye relief isn't an issue.  A benefit of a cantilever RDS mount is that it gives you more space on the receiver to mount a magnifier.

I'm happy with plain, non-cantilever mounts for my Aimpoints.
