I have had the Primary Arms 4moa M3 clone, their M3 multi reticle clone, and now an aimpoint 2moa PRO.
Now my question is that why with the 4moa and 2moa dots they look like starburts to me, doesnt matter the brightness or what I focus on, but the dot appears perfect through my iron sights or magnifier. Now what I find odd is that the eotech like reticle in the PA M3 multi and the other non dot reticle look considerably sharp compared just a plane dot. There is some blurring with them but they look really good especially when I'm outside aiming at a target, but the plain jane dots always look like a starburst. |
| I had a post on this and why looking through something takes the blooming away. It's your astigmatism and it sucks. The Aimpoint is better because the dot is finer quality and blooms less. You are seeing 2 or 3 dots intead of one. As you turn it up you see 6 or seven or more at the same time. Looking though an aperture will clear it up, but the kill flash after the dot didn't do a thing for me. An ACOG or any illuminated reticle works fine for me, as all the red dots and holo sights are not atigmatism friendly. Makes me want to get Lasiks in the shooting eye |
Yep, it's your eyes. Why I moved away from red dot's. I love them but they don't work well with my eyes any longer. Getting old sucks.
I heard the same thing with the kill flash, but when I used them it just added yet ONE more thing to look through and confused the sight picture even more. YMMV on that. |

Im 22 and they look starburst to me too, I have 20/20 vision when I get checked at the eye doctor but I guess I have astigmatism too. O well I just learn to live with it and have gotten used to it. |

For me, it depends on which glasses I'm wearing. If I'm wearing my everyday glasses, major starburst. If I wear my prescription sunglasses or my shooting glasses with Rx inserts, clear as a bell.
The problem is my everyday glasses have millions of micro scratches in them from me cleaning them all the time. I know it doesn't help you any...

Another thing that can impact the clarity is the optical center of your glasses if you have a strong prescription. I have a high minus prescription and astigmatism. I see very clearly through the center of the lens but if I get off the center things start to blur. Head position and orientation and cheek weld can make a huge difference. For me the more upright my head position the closer I look through the optical center of the lens and the clearer I see.

| Just a thought, I'm a rookie at this though. When I focus my eyes on the target the dot is perfect. If I'm just looking through it at home and my eyes focus on the dot and not through the sight then it's a huge star. I had a hard time retraining myself with this because I got use to focusing on the front ironsight. |

I have heard the kill flash makes the dot look good, but its not that bad with the aimpoint ,especially the 2 moa version. I tried by buying Red dots with the kill flashes and it doesn't help my astigmatism problems at all. On to the eye doctor tomorrow for this same problem |

I'm 19. I'm 19....same stuff. I just get over it. If I need a precise clear dot then it's through use with the magnifier or irons at long range. Speed kill shots, the dot, blur or not, works. We make it. ....Though....if I let my eyes sit and refocus, the dots all get clear. Just a matter of relaxing or straining my focus, or looking at target and not caring about the blossom. |

I'm 19. I was senior in high school when my hair started thinning; completely bald by 21. "Getting Old" can happen anytime. |
