Seems a AR approved optic is out of the budget for quite some time.... I  currently have a Simmons 44 magnum scope on my 20in HBAR. and its WAY too big and  heavy.
Has anyone tried a shot gun scope on a flat top and been able to co-witness the hard sights?  I have very little experience in this area and would appreciate your views.
Thanks in advance.

You really can't co-witness with magnified optics.

Ok with that being said... My old eyes arent getting any better so a magnified optic is a great advantage to me. So the question still stands.

Do you mean a fixed 1X shotgun or handgun scope?

How poor are you? Name a price and we will recommend something decent.

Just blew my budget on gear.... say $100.
I dont know exactly what is out there. I was thinking of a shotgun, or handgun scope so that I can mount it further up on the receiver and still have room for a BUIS.
My vision sucks without glasses so if I lost or broke my glasses I wanted something that I can focus and still see at distance up to around 300m.

I would probably save up another $1-200 bucks, and look into something like a Leupold Mark AR, or the Nikon M-223. Even the cheaper Nikons aren't bad, but for $100, its gonna be difficult to find something that your happy with. I would save up a little more, and use the irons in the mean time.

ETA: For $68 extra bucks, you could get a red dot and 3x magnifyer from Primary Arms.

The 3x9x40 at Primary arms for $79 is actually a really decent scope and you can get a mount with it for $20. I have this scope and it has really decent glass, far better than the price suggests. It only weighs 15oz which is about the same as many 1-4's out now.

Here is a link to the primary arms 3x9x40. The clicks are actually 1/4 moa, not 1.4.

I already have a full length scope, Thanks for the suggestion tho.
Was actually looking for something like this...

Maybe even a decent red dot. I have a cheapo red dot but the glass shows 2 dots and I dont really care for it.

I suggest Vortex Viper 2-7x for $170 at SWFA for a scope or the Vortex Strikefire for $150 for a RDS.  Both are great.

I have a Tasco World Class 1.5-4.5 shotgun scope.  For $50.00 you can't beat it.
You don't need to a big scope to make tight groups.

Barrel: Black Hole Weaponry 20" Poly3 rifling Hbar
Upper:Aero Precision
YHM Customizable FFT
YHM Gas Block
RRA: BCG
Scope: Tasco World Class 1.5-4.5

Go with a spare pair of glasses and a Magpul MBUS. Don't waste your limited $$$ on substandard optics and mounts.

Do you want an unmagnified red dot?

Do you want a variable low-power zoom?

Or do you want a traditional high(er) power scope?

Another +1 for Primary Arms 1-4x...here it is with a Primary Arms mount...plenty of room for a BUIS

I have since upgraded to a Larue QD mount, but there is still room for a BUIS

The 1-4x also has an illuminated dot in addition to the crosshairs

Nikon Prostaff  2-7 or 3-9 with BDC reticle. Here is a 2-7 in the EE used for $95 shipped. You'll have $5 towards a mount.

I suffer from "Limited Funds" as well, so I feel your pain, brother.  Spending your cash on a quality light/mount combo and a 24/7 tritium front sight post or a Magpul rear sight (if you dont have a BUIS) is a better way to go IMO while still getting close to your target number of 100 dollars.

Sounds like the best option yet.
So what would be a good choice for front sights.
I may go with a carry handle... Is there a replacement tritium out there?
Edit: I do like the Trijicon 24/7 stripe with same plane rear site. Question is... how long will the Trijicon sights last?
