I was watching some youtube videos of removing the front sight.  I was wondering it is possible to cut the front sight off the gas block without removing it from the barrel.

I have a drill with a cutting blade that I used to remove the barrel nut when I installed my new forearm.  If this is a bad idea please let me know.

TIA

Scroll down about two thirds of the page, and you'll see how to cut it down step by step.

Why remove it? Seems like a stupid move to me.

Buy whatever optic you want and co-witness with the sights.

If you want a rifle-length handguard on a carbine or midlength gun, the FSB can get in the way.

Thanks for all the replies.  If I do remove it, it will be for two reasons.
1.  I am considering going to a longer rail.  I am a tall guy and would like the extra length .
2.  I find the cowitness to be a little cluttered.  I will add flip up sights for my back up.
