Hello all... long-time lurker, first post.

I have a late 80's Bushy carbine with the fixed carry handle upper. I want to mount a red-dot on the carry handle, perhaps the Burris or Vortex but I am concerned that using the carry handle scope rail adapter will put the scope too high above the bore axis. Does anyone have a build like that and/or know of any lower-profile options for mounting? I'm trying to avoid having to buy a flat-top upper for this rifle, but may have to... wanted to ask here first.

Thanks in advance... tom158

You might try a cantilever mount and put the red dot in front of the carry handle.

Thx, interesting idea, but not sure how the cantilever mount would attach to the rifle. Will have to Google on cantilevers I reckon. It's a start.

Something like this.  The mount attaches to the carry handle with a thumb screw.

It's really a matter of what you're comfortable with; red dots on the carry handle work fine for me:

Ditto.

I hate those "gooseneck" things.

You can properly zero a red dot on a carry handle mount.

In fact, us old timers still remember when ALL optics for ARs were mounted on the carry handle.
