gents,

i have a 40X50 scope.  the scope has a 30mm tube, and a 50mm objective.

The scope came with high profile scope rings, I'm not to pleased w/them.  it's too high off the upper for me.

Question, has anyone used low profile rings or med profile rings with the ar flattop and a scope w/50mm objective?

i'd like to know if a low profile or med profile ring would fit with this scope and my flattop.

thanks!

The problem with lower profile rings is that the end bell of the objective lens comes down on top of the rifle if you are not careful, particularly with a 50mm objective.  I have a 44 mm objective and am able to use medium profile on my 20" AR.  This fit up can vary from scope to scope depending on the thickness of the objective bell on the forward end and the type of forearm furniture on the rifle.  Also there is the clearance problem between eyepiece and charging handle where the eyepiece impedes quick access to the handle.  This can be alleviated by using an extended "ear" on the charging handle.  Finally, there is the front sight post.   Even though it may be in the visual path, it usually does not disturb the scope picture.

You would probably need to get specific with your particular rifle and scope dimensions to make a decision.

thanks for the reply

the rifle is a 18in SPR MRK12 Mod0 with a KAC RAS.  I'll need to get a extended latch for it for sure.  there is no front sight post.

The SPR Mod 0 specs I have seen do not list a 50 mm objective 40 power scope with ? eye relief.  Before dropping a few hundred bucks on the extended one piece Larue's, it might be more prudent to get some cheap two piece (two separate) rings, and play around with those.  See what works best for you as far as having just enough gap between end bell and forearm for a lens cap, etc. Make up your own spec., then go looking for some of the high speed low drag stuff.

On the other hand, someone may have the best setup for your scope already figured out (which was what your were asking in the first place).  You will need to get the end bell outside diameter of the scope using dial calipers, etc., divide it by two, add the gap for an end cap clearance (end bell to KAC RAS or RAS with grip pad?.  That will be the minimum height above the forearm needed for the ring centerline

I use millet rings xtra high. places the scope center in about the same location as the a2 rear sight.

A ar stock has no drop so you usally use higher rings than you would on your dads hunting rifle.
