I am looking for a light and good quality hunting optic for my 6.8.
I am a Nikon fan, but do not like the 3MOA dot in the center of the new 1-4x M-223.
The Nikon African appears to be the same scope with a hunting ret.
The price is right, does anyone have any experience with it?

The Leupold competition is more money, but does only weigh 9.5oz.

Should I skip this range altogether and go for the 2-8 Nikon as it weighs just a fraction more?

I can still get the Nikon Primos for $199, and the Leupold 3-9x40 Mark AR is another option.

Sorry to include so many choices, Just tell me what you think. Is the 1-4x scope a good choice for hunting or is it worth a few oz to go a bit bigger?

The Nikon African is a solid scope.  I just don't see the purpose of having a 1-4X scope.  I know that they are still somewhat of a popular item.  I've gone through quite a few of them trying to find one that I really liked.  In the end, I found myself either wishing that I had a real red dot or that I had more magnification.  Now, I just keep one carbine with a 1.5X ACOG on it and another rifle with a 2.5-10X on it.  Those two cover all of my bases.

In short, I'd go for the higher magnification.  Besides, I think that having a "true" 1X is over rated and have never had any trouble employing BAC with a 2X or more.
