So I finally broke down and got myself a Nightforce 3.5x15x50 w/NP-R1
looking at it today I notice a big fat made in japan on the bottom, and went straight to there website. It appears that not all there scopes are made in the USA. Man this is really disappointing to me. I see some of there scopes proudly state made in USA, while some just don't say anything. Please tell me that I did not buy a sub-par product, and the ones made in japan are just as good as the American ones. It looks like a super sniper the more and more I look at it. |

Quoted: most of the NF line is made in Japan. It is very good glass. my japanese 3.5-15NXS was some of the best glass i've ever owned. it was much better than my Leupold Mark 4 I know the company that produces most of NF's line, and IMHO this company is probably the best "mass-producer" of riflescopes in the World. A lot of brand names use them, even the Germans! |

Quoted: What's REALLY amazing is how much of all other scope manufactures glass is made and ground from the same overseas factories. Vic It's a cost thing...as usual. Gov't compliance costs are more than the costs of the lenses themselves. (This is including using chemicals for the coatings and the cost of VD, etc, etc.) It's at the point where only the laser guys can afford US elements. That's because they pretty much sell to the Gov't and just bill them for the cost of the compliance. There are also other reasons, such as lower cost of labor, and all costs related to having an employee. Then there's also the fact that some governments, China for example, want exports, and look the other way when it comes to how well their labor force is treated. My old boss, on a trip through China, was freaking when he saw old ladies in a room with only one big door and a couple of small windows using rags dipped in benzene (not wearing gloves either) and cleaning lenses. If current accounting theory is reliable, and then labor costs are 70% of the cost of a product (I don't think this extrapolation holds true in China, but it's all I got) then how can anyone compete against that kind of pricing? |

Very interesting...I never knew that some of the NF product line is made in Japan? I purchased a 2.5-10x32mm over the summer and never noticed any japan markings on it. I guess I'll have to look it over tonight. Unless, as stated above - this compact version is 100% made in the USA?
