| Hey all. I just received my RRA Standard upper yesterday and I have a question. I went to the range today with the assembled rifle to function fire it and see what was what. The gun was shooting 10" - 12" low at 100 yards, there was a strong headwind and I am not a great iron sight shooter but I can't believe the wind or my mediocre ability could put me that low at that distance. I have owned several AR's in the past 15 or 20 years (Colts and Armalites) and all were POA at 100 yards out of the box, should I expect RRA to do the same? I obviously am going to adjust the sights but is this the norm from RRA? I am assuming I do not have a defective piece just one that was not correctly adjusted but I wanted input from the pros. One more thing, what is the MOA value per click on the sights? I am assuming .50 per click on the rear and 1.0 per click on the front but I am not sure. Thanks in advance for any replies I receive. |

Just adjust the sights to your 100yd zero, if they won't adjust to zero then you have an issue. Everyone seems to think rifles are zeroed from the factory, they aren't.
If it will not zero with your available adjustment on the front sight post then you have something to be concerned about. |

I'm sure you probably already know this but both the front and rear sights are adjustable for elevation. With this set up you have the best of both worlds and getting the elevation just right should not be an issue. This only thing that I could think of potentially being odd is if by some chance the front sight were an F marked front sight base. I'm 98% sure RR doesn't use this sight. |

I went to the range for a few minutes today and it was weird. I tried to get a 100 yard zero using the rear sight only, I was told by RRA that the sight is a 1/2 MOA per click and since i was about 10"-12" low at 100 yards I dialed up the rear sight 20 clicks, if it was close to POA with this adjustment I would roll it back and adjust from the front sight. The next group I shot after the adjustment was 10" - 12" high which surprised me, that means that the original setting was correct. I dialed the rear sight back to where it originally started and the next group I shot was about 9" low. This makes no sense at all, there is no way I should have a 20" elevation change with a 20 click adjustment. I have shot scoped rifles for 20 years and have never taken more than 20 rounds to get POA with any gun. Maybe I am losing my mind. What is an "F" marked front sight? |

F Front Sight base is one where the shelf is slightly higher, resulting in a sight that is better suited for a short barrel, short sight radius set up. The F marked front sight block is used on carbine length weapons so you don't need to use an extra tall Front Sight Post.
Look into the appleseed project, it will get you over having self doubt about your shooting abilities. |

I have no self doubt about my shooting abilities really, I just know I am not a great iron sight shooter. I can do 4" at 100 yards off a bench semi rapid fire, not great but more than adequate to zero a gun. The situation I have run into with this new upper has me puzzled as it is not logical. It is now logical, I did a search and dug up some info. It looks like my sights are 1 MOA per click, That makes sense but I am surprised that RRA uses 1 MOA clicks. |
