Hey guys I have an Aimpoint that I just recently mounted to my Troy rail on my 6520 upper which is A2 of course. The rail isn't free floated just a drop in but is very , very rock solid. I mounted the Aimpoint to it with a larue cantilever mount until I get my arms #39 mount in which will mount to the handle and is supposed to be the best out there. As of right now though it seems to be working really great the way it is. I sighted it in and it's held zero with me hitting the aimpoint with my hand pretty hard, banging the stock on the ground, and running all kinds of ammo through the rifle and it still holds zero. I've always been told it wouldn't unless it's free float.
What are your guys experience with this? Were you capable of keeping zero? The reason I'm thinking about keeping it this way is my gun is lighter without the Arms mount. It's a perfect cowitness with my A2 sights, and it's lower profile this way also. This gun was built to be my light carry / truck gun and I'm watching the weight. So let's here your guys opinions and if you could post any photos you might have with the Aimpoint mounted this way. Thanks |

Just because a rail isn't FF doesn't necessarily mean it will have trouble getting an optic back to zero. Quality rails like Surefire or KAC RAS in my experience lock up very solid and would be suitable for mounting an RDS in a quality mount. I don't have any experience with Troy's rails, but I'm sure they're on par with the rest of the stuff they make.
