Hey, all!
I posted this on another forum, but wanted to your input as well. I've narrowed down my optic choice but I'm stuck deciding between an XPS 2.0/2.1/2.2 for my Ruger SR-556. I'm thinking that because my AR runs a piston, perhaps the 2.2 would be a pipe dream, but then again, my next rifle might be DI. Help? Analysis paralysis has me
BTW, a deal like this looks awfully tempting: http://www.primaryarms.com/product.s...5&categoryId=5 I've emailed them asking if the 3x magnifier can be upgraded to their deluxe model but I may just bite the bullet and pick up the EOTech magnifier. |
| I guess that was both a loaded and incomplete question. What I meant to ask is if you guys think the 2nd dot on the XPS 2.2 would be a nuisance given that I likely won't use my rifle for anything past 300yds or if I should get it anyway, just in case. I wanted as simple a sight picture as possible and thought using the 3x magnifier would enlarge the dots enough to make that 2nd dot an annoyance. |
|
On the old one with the four dots, they said it was impossible to use without a magnifier. On these new ones with 2 dots, some guys say its annoying and sell there 3-2 for a 3-0...some guys say it helps. If you have to go long range, you can still use the space between the dot and the bottom of the reticle on the 3-0 to range it with some practice. The extra dot just gives you another definitive spot, less "guessing." Go to a shop, look through it, see if the clutter bugs you. Magnification should clear it up, not clutter it more. Still not sure what the piston has to do with anything. |
| That's about how I had it figured, but wanted the forum's opinions/experience. The only reason I mentioned the piston was because I figured it would be less accurate and a DI gun out 500+yds (BTW, I'm not trying to start a DI vs. Piston fight). I could be wrong on that; I haven't tested it out to that distance. Add to that the fact that I live in SoCal, where a damp chia pet counts as a backyard and you'll see I probably have little to no use for that 2nd dot. However, there's always the SHTF scenario, so I'm still torn. |
|
It couldn't be that marginally inaccurate, you'd still be able to use it out to the distance if you want to. But you don't NEED the extra dot to range out that far. Like I said, I'm in the same boat as you and I'm just waiting 'til I have time to hit a shop, look at both, and decide if I like the 3-0 or 3-2 better. Hands on, and especially if you can get it on your rifle will always beat looking at reticle pictures online.

Looks like the second dot is kinda hard to use. |

But I'm really not sure what the point of that model is, unless you just hate aimpoint for some reason. |

1moa dot, looking at a window instead of through a toilet paper tube, TRUE parallax-free, holographic vs. "dot", etc.... I certainly don't "hate" Aimpoints, they're fine sights. Some people prefer one, some the other. Guess that's why I don't go around thread-crapping in the Aimpoint threads. |

I'm with you on going to a shop and testing both out. While that youtube vid is interesting, it isn't exactly what your eye will see.
