I jumped the gun and bought the wrong front sight |

There are two varieties of detachable / flip-up front sights, varying in height. Some are meant for mounting on a rail that's presumably at the same height as the rail on the receiver itself. The others are meant for mounting on a railed gas block. The railed gas blocks are generally lower than the forend rails, so a sight designed to be mounted on the gas block will be taller than one designed for a forend rail. Putting the wrong height sight on either setup will (or at least can) result in the rear sight not having enough elevation adjustment range. DD, Larue, presumably Yankee Hill, and others all make front sights, either fixed or flip-up, that will work on your rail. I have a regular fixed front sight / gas block on my rifle, so I'm not an expert on what's available but I'm sure somebody will step up and recommend something. |

Putting a folding front sight on a carbine length rail will be a short sight radius, but most non gas block front sights will work. Troy battle sights are the best

| I will take a look at the Troy and may just change out the gas block. I do understand the sight radius on the rail however in my mind id rather have a short radius then no iron sights. This problem arised as I got the gas block for free and was trying to save a little cash. |
