Allright gents,
Getting to be optic buying time. I find myself torn between an Eotech 512 and and an ACOG, probably a 1.5X, not sure on which reticle yet. I like the heads up, both eyes open approach of an eotech, but have read where some think the reticle is "obstructive", ( I think they meant the circle and dot are just too much crammed in there). ACOG features seem sweet, not the price though. Scope will be mounted on an Armalite M15cb, 16" barrel. Typical yardage will be 25 to 300. If you could limit your responses to personal experience and not opinion it would be appreciated. Thanks for any info. you got guys. |

i bought the 512 first. great optic for up close and personal zombie killing. both eye open shooting is a breeze (i'm a n00b) and i can use my BUIS thru the glass. reticle is great for minute of zombie. i dont like the battery life, but AAs are cheap.
2 weeks ago i bought a LNIB, never mounted TA33-8 off of Ebay. i would have preferred the donut or horseshoe in red, but for $575...well a yellow chevron is just fine. i like the ACOG a lot better. Now I admit I don't have a magnifier for my EoTech, so I can't compare that. But the ACOG is pretty easy to shoot with both eyes open and has a fair amount of eye relief. the chevron glows nicely and is easy to put on target. i am no expert, so take my advice with a grain of salt. if you can afford the ACOG, i think it's worth it- and i'm just a casual plinker. But i admit i am a gadget/gear junkie. Edit: I see that you are in Indiana. Where abouts are you? |

Haven't used the ACOG (seen 'em and used other magnified optics) but have owned/used a number of Eotechs.
Personally, I think comparing the two is apples & oranges. The Eotech is designed for fast close-in shots but I have no difficulties hitting the 300m gong offhand if I do my part. It has no parallax or eye relief to worry about (and so is more forgiving of sloppy cheekweld when shooting from awkward positions) and the reticle is brightness-adjustable at the cost of being battery dependent. I happen to like the circle-dot reticle and don't find it "cluttered" at all (YMMV). The ACOG is an incredibly tough magnified optic w/eye-relief to consider and isn't as fast close-in but it doesn't need batteries at the cost of non-adjustable reticle brightness. So, which one best fits your needs & pocketbook?... Tomac |
