hey guys just got my first AR and have a quick question.
it was my understanding LMT use F front sight posts. i can find an F on mine. on the right side it has a diamond and what looks to be a 1. it could be a line like this | its hard to tell. if your holding the rifle like you were firing it, the marks on the right side. many thanks. Merdoc |

When Colt came out with flat-top detachable carry handle uppers in the 90's, it was necessary to raise the total height of the carry handle rear sight because material need to be added to make the picatinny rail/ carry handle interface strong enough.
As a result the front sight was also raised slightly to re-center the front's range of adjustment in both directions for zeroing. In essence, a F marked front sight goes with a flat-top detachable carry handle upper, while the non-F front sight is for the fixed carry handle. LMT doesn't mark theirs I guess because they do not make fixed carry handle uppers as a regular item, while colt still does ( or at least they did for a while ). An F-height front sight is considered a "good" feature mainly because later many AR manufacturers only copied the flat top from Colt, and did not realize that Colt also changed the front sight. If say, you had a fixed carry handle upper the F marked front sight is not needed and may even make it so you cant zero, just like having a flat top with a non-F front sight might cause problem (i.e. you bottomed out the front elevation and still cant get a zero) |

I hate to step on the sellers sale, but you should ask the seller, "Who made it?" The keyhole and the 2 are only forge codes for the raw forging, which I think is Cerro Forge. That is no indication who made it as Cerro supplies forgings to many manufacturers. Not all carry handles are the same and they may be made to a manufacturers arbitrary height. If you want to be sure you got the right thing LMT makes removable carry handles for their uppers LMT carry handle. LMT's stuff is made to mil spec so any other spec carry handle should work too, like colt or BCM. BCM |
