I'm almost done with my 18" SPR build and I need to decide on a scope. Keep it under $600 please, I'm poor!! I've been looking at the Leupold Mark AR and the Nikon M223. Let me know what you think and why. Thanks in advance!!!

I like my Mark AR's I have a 6-18x40 and a 4-12x40.  You should be able to get the 4-12x40 and an LT-104 for just under 600.00.

ETA I like the Mark AR clarity and the turret adjustments are nice and crisp.

You can actually get a lot of scope for $600.  Nikon, Sightron, Bushnell Elite, Weaver Slam, etc.  If you take an interest in a Leupold, give it a good once over and check the eye relief through out the range of magnification.  Leupy's have always driven me crazy with the amount that the eye relief changes when you dial in the magnification.

I would buy a Nikon Buckmaster mil-dot for <$300 and start saving for better glass down the road.

Same boat here too... might need a group buy.... looking for a good scope for my recent AR build...and I am wondering who has the Leupold Mark AR on their rig. Wondering how well the scope is set up for the 55gr .223 round...and if the BDC is actually true to it's marks? I was also looking at the Nikon M223 line...but there is a hell of a wait on them.
Looking at the 4 X 12 vs the 6 X 18.
TIA for any input.

I use Mark AR's they are some really great glass...have not had hands on the M223 yet.
I use a Nikon Monarch on my long range 20 inch but it was over $600....
Have a cheap Nikon Prostaff one upper and its nice glass...cheap at Walmart too.
Primary Arms has some nice low cost mounts now to worth looking at.

below the Prostaff 2-7x32mm and Primary Arms Deluze Mount...

My SWFA SS 10x42 has been an outstanding scope.  It's tough as nails (I've already dropped the poor thing twice), and the glass is as clear as I've ever seen.  Add in a decent mount (my Bobro was about $200), and you're sitting at ~$500.

I have a Mark AR 6-18x40 mounted on my 20" RRA BBL.  Great scope - I zeroed it at 100 yds and then set the dial at 1 (100yds).  Only had one opportunity to test the BDC turrets and this is what I found out.  I was shooting at 4" clay targets at 300 yds.  I dialed the turret to 3 for 300 yards and was shooting about 2 inches low using 75 grn hornady tap rounds.  A few clicks up and it was perfect.  I later checked the load data and found that 75 grain ammo has about two more inches of drop at 300 yds compared to 55 grain ammo so I was relieved that it wasn't hitting point of aim on 3.

Sweet...that's what I want to know...and thats the power I am looking at. I have the 20"  RRA Predator Pursuit upper.
I know that using other ammo other than the 55gr is going to get me out of "spec"...but that's what a log book is for. I really do like the Leupold...and I could wait for the Nikon...but I am itching to shoot this build...and the Leupold is available. I do like the Nikon mount...but again...finding it seems to be a problem...and it's not going to work with the Leupold. Looks like SWFA has a combo price....but I don't like the rings that come with it...they have the picatinny top and sides.
Thanks for the info...at least I know what Bipod I am ordering...

If it were me i would get that leuplod as well...i actually did have it after i tryed a 3-9 mark AR...I am old an my eyes are not as good as once were.
So after the Leuplod 6-18 Mark AR i went to a Nikon Monarch 8-32x50 and can see my 200 yard orange dots way better,I am useing the larue Lt-104 but
Primary Arms doe's have some nice inexpensive mounts which i do have one for my 22LR upper.
Primary Arms Mount 1 Inch
These were on my RRA Predator Pursuit that i handlaod for and have a quest to shoot one ragged hole.I'm getting real close to just over size of a quarter....

I have mine mounted on a MEGA 10 MOA scout rail with medium rings.  The scout rail adds 5/8" and lets you run the scope forward alot.  Don't know if I will ever need the extra 10 MOA but its there if I do.  I'm looking forward to shooting some 55 gr at distance to verify the BDC turrets.

Where did you get the Mega rail...I looked, but did not have any luck finding them... Gun looks great....and I like the forward scope mount....makes clearing the charging handle that much easier

thealmightysam... on a side note...what camera did you use to shoot that pic...very clean pic.

TIA fellas for the info.

After much research and looking around I went with a Leopold MK2 4-12x40 w mildot. It is essentially the Mark AR with out the BDC. I also own a Mk4 and like the MK2 just as much. THe Mk4 was more than twice the cash and is said to be more durable. I have had 0 issues with durability from the MK2 and it rides in the truck and on the ATV as well. Both scopes are in LT-104 mounts and I have never had an eye relief issue when zooming in and out.

Try Rainier Arms - They show it in stock

Camera is a SONY - can't think of the model right now but it is nothing fancy but pretty current.  Was less than $200.00

Ha!  The most horrid old ancient Canon point-and-shoot from about 2001.  That photo is a testament to how clear the glass is on the SS 10x42.

I just got this one in the mail http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=598484

Weaver Tactical Grand Slam 3-10X with Mil reticle and Mil target turrets. Got it on sale for $299. Haven't mounted it yet but it looks good so far. Clear audible clicks, clear glass. 2nd focal plane but pretty much everything is at this price. Looks like Weaver made these for MidwayUSA, it has their logo printed on the box.

I could never understand why the Mark ARs are so popular.  Apparently a bunch of people like them.  I really don't like the shift in eye relief that Leuupolds exhibit.  In your price range, I'd look to Nikon and Sightron and would forego the bdc reticle in favor of a mil dot or some other form of ranging reticle.  It'll be more flexible.  Don't forget about Bushnell Elite and the Weaver Slams.

I recently had a Sightron SII Big Sky.  I had a plain jane reticle, but the turret adjustments were very repeatable.  I'd say that the price range you're in would be considered the medium price range and there's LOTS of good glass out there for that amount of money.

Do you have to have a variable?  I know that you can afford more scope, but the Bushnell Elite 3200 10X is a pretty nice scope at under $200 from Primary Arms.  You could get that and a nice mount for under $500.
