I was told that the Leupold Mark AR would be a good choice for the 308. They said for $60 I could order a BDC to match that. Based on the cost of the scope, the BDC and tax, I'm looking at $400 and a little change. Is there a better way to go? I do not anticipate shooting at more than 300 yards with 100-150 yards being the norm.

That is exactly what I did. I am very happy with the Mark AR. When I ordered the elevation knob from Leupold I confirmed that it is indeed the Mark 2 tactical with BDC for .223/5.56. I highly recomend the Mark AR's I have 2 of them. One on my DPMS AP4 7.62 and one on my bushmaster M4gery.

Range report here.

I'd look at something like a Bushnell Elite or Nikon with a mil-dot. Mount it in a Burris PEPR mount and you're gtg!

A Super Sniper would be better.
