Hey all,
I am in need of a flat top scope mount to mount my Nikon 3-9x40 Buckmaster rifle scope to my new flat top AR. I want a Larue but I don`t have the money. Who makes the next best mount?

Thanks

You could check out the Bobro or American Defense Mfg. mounts but I would just save until I could afford the Larue. Why buy second best when saving to buy the thing you want will only take a little time?

www.gggaz.com

They sell something called the scout mount which allows proper eye relief for prone shooting.  Leupold mark 4 rings are also pretty nice without being too expensive.  They're also light.

I have one of these:

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=21088/pid=0/sku/Flattop_Scope_Mount__1_

It's not the lightest, but is solid and mounts with little/no shift of zero.

Don't know if it's the next best.
I prefer a 1/2 riser, so the ring's aren't overly tall.  This base allows for a 42mm Obj. to use Low (.730") rings.  Same height as needed on a PSS.
A higher ring would not allow that

I used this one before I switched to LaRue.  It's still on my son's gun and does what it's supposed to.  Down falls are it's big and a little heavy, no quick release.  However, it is a decent mount for the money and gives you the forward offset.

Not sure what size that scope is, but the mount can be bought in either 1" or 30mm.

Save up and get a quality mount.  It is better to do it right the first time.  I went with the Larue lt-104.

I used extra high weaver mounts on mine.

I found the extra high weavers to be too low, but the LT-104 to be just right.

pics of our new deluxe mount. It is the only moderately priced mount that I know of that is available in a standard and extended version. $59.99
Rock solid, excellent fit and finish. Square cross bolts for return to zero when removed.

We received the 30mm version this week. If your scope is 1" I will have the dedicated 1" version next week.

Might be just me, but I don't get why mounts and rings are being promoted that will not allow a stock weld.
May be just my cheek is used to being on the stock.  Not at some on plane above it

What's your budget?  If the Larue is what you want, save until you can get it.  Buy once, cry once, as the saying goes.  If you are just getting the Larue because everyone has you believing that it is the best, that is a matter of opinion and I suggest that you check out a couple of others to make sure that it is all you think it is.  I guess I'm one of the rare few that didn't think that the Larue was the best for me.  There's nothing wrong with the ADM and Bobro mounts.  I prefer the ADM mounts.

If you like the Bobro mounts, you should check them out at Sport Optics.  They are selling the Trijicon branded Bobro mounts for less than the Larues go for.  If you just need a good solid mounting system and have to go the inexpensive route, try out a Yankee Hill 5" extension riser (~$50) with a set of Warne high rings (~$30).  The cost is under $100 and it's a very solid and flexible rig.

Each of my 3 scoped ARs affords a good consistent cheek weld on the stock.  A scope sits higher on an AR in reference to the bore axis because, unlike almost all bolt guns, the AR has an inline stock with no drop at the comb.

You waited until I buy a PERP to roll these out, wtf! It looks lower than the Burris, how tall and how far forward?

The Armalite is very nice, but low and doesn't extend very far forward. Its perfect on my long range toy but BUIS selection is limited to KAC 300M and that's it. The Burris doesn't look as neatly machined or finished to me, but it is a great budget mount and I have no problems with it mechanically. I wish it was a hair lower, and less bulky though.

The height is the same. Our standard version extends the same amount as the PEPR. You do have a little more room to move forward because the rings are not as wide. Our extended mount let's you move the scope 1.75" further forward that the PEPR.  It is 2oz lighter yet has a thicker cross section where it counts. I will get pics up later today.

Pic as promised.

Bobros are more than the Larue, not less. They also add more functionality and self-adjust, something the Larues do not.

I just ordered the Primary Arms 1" Scope Mount. I grew tired of waiting for the Burris PEPR. 1 hour after placing the order I received the shipping notice e-mail. I'll post a review when I get it next week.

I'm not seeing the 1" deluxe scope mount on the PA site yet.  Per Marshall, they'd be up on the PA web page next week.  Did you have to call the order in, or did you order the older generation mount?

This mount looks good!!! I would also check out the Rock River mounts though. They manufacture them in house and the quality is supposed to be very good. I'll let you know once mine comes in next week.

Ok...  What height does a scope mount need to be to provide a "stock weld"?  Just wondering...

...and, (not to counter GTO688, but to add to his comment), what happens when 'proper cheek weld' conflicts with your bell diameter?  After all, not only is there no drop in the comb, but there is also no drop in front of the scope mount.
