hey guys, was hunting in some pretty hard rain a couple weeks ago
well, it fried my holosight. it made a weird noise, and that was it. i came home, got it very dried out, and let it sit by the heater for a day or two. tried new batteries... no luck. i don't believe they are under warrenty. any ideas? do you guys know somewhere that fixes these things? is it worth it. i've had great luck with it for a long time. i was going to buy an eotech because i thought they were better then the holosight, but then i was reading that they were made by the same people, and the holosight is just missing the cage over the top. thanks for the info. |

Bushnell's Warranty for the HoloSight reads as follows:
"...warranted to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for two years after the date of purchase.....This warranty does not cover damages caused by misuse, improper handling, installation or maintenance provided by someone other than Bushnell..." You might give them a call if it is less than two years old. I wouldn't get my hopes up though. I had one that started burning through batteries even when turned off. It turns out Bushnell has discontinued the HoloSight. They eventually replaced it with a ZoomDot (30mm tube style red dot). It's supposed to be waterproof to 300'. Bushnell acquired Millet several years ago and it is a Millet product with the Bushnell name on the side. So far it seems OK but the mount is too low. You need an extra high ring to get an absolute cowitness on a flat top AR with an A2 front sight. Good luck. |

For the record, the Bushnell Holosights are actually EoTech products. My understanding is that some years ago, Eotech formed a strategic partnership with Bushnell for the purpose of large scale distribution of their technology (Eotech's) and branding. The Holosights are essentially model-specific Bushnell branded Eotechs. That partnership has apparently expired as the "Bushnell Holosight" is now a discontinued product; presumably, Eotech doesn't need Bushnell's distribution any longer. This is a shame because the Holosights are a genuine bargain. They have the earlier generation Eotech electronics - hence the 40 hour battery life - and lack the metal, protective cover of the Eotech optics. Otherwise, with maybe a few other minor caveats, they're essentially re-branded Eotechs. They're great optics and are very light-weight. In fact, Jerry Miculek had one mounted to his revolver during a competition segment of Shooting USA last week. I have 2 of them LNIB that I'll be putting up on the EE shortly. I had them mounted to a couple of .22 rifles and decided shortly after purchasing them that I wanted magnified optics; it increases the fun factor on a .22 :) If anyone's interested, keep an eye on the EE for them.
