Is there any trick to knowing which BUIS's will work with each other/align properly, assuming you're mixing and matching them? I see a lot that look significantly taller than others (a la KAC 600m BUIS) and don't seem like they would align with anything other than their matched brand counterpart.

They SHOULD be the same....except for some rare HK sights, sights designed to work with a swan sleeve, or low Larue sights.

No tricks, if they're designed for the AR they should, and usually do not have problems being mixed up.  The exception, as mentioned, would be if you throw in an HK416 sight into the mix, those are shorter to accommodate the slightly higher receiver and handguard rails on the HK416.

Re: ARMS Swan sleeve and the #40 variants, they'll still work with AR15  front sights, same goes for the LaRue BUIS, there's only one height for the #40 and LaRue BUIS, standard.

I mix up the parts all the time, not on purpose, I just grab what I happen to have at the time.  It's like mismatching silverware, it may look off but it still works.
