I can't make up my mind.  I have this rifle in my safe that is in need of an optic but I can't make up my mind.  Can ARFCOM help a brotha out?
Most of my experience has been with irons or an Acog and I have no real need for a red dot since I have another rifle already set up with one.  I like the 1x4 glass but am leaning towards a 2x8 or 3x9; i just dont want it swallowing my rifle. I'll be shooting this from, but not limited to, about 300-500 yards. I want to keep it UNDER or around $1200 and prefer and illuminating reticle but it's not a deal breaker.  Bellow are my idea's but I'm open to any recommendations and invite suggestions.  Pics would be a plus...

Rifle:
16 in floated Noveske barreled upper
LMT lower w/ two stage trigger

My initial thoughts:
Leupold 1.5x5x20 Mark 4 MR/T
Leupold 2.5x8 Mark 4 Mr/t
Trijicon ACOG TA31RCO-A4CP or TA31RCO-M150CP
Trijicon 1-4x24 Accu-Point
Nightforce 1-4 x 24 NXS
Nightforce NXS 2.5-10 x 32

My friend has a Leupy 2.5-8x36 with M1 illuminated retical.

Its a really nice scope, fairly compact, and not all that heavy or beastly. At 2.5 you can easily do 50 yard shooting, and the 8x is probably going to be good at 500 yards once its punched in correctly.

Although the Nightforce 2.5-10 seems to be a really good scope as well. Same 2.5 but goes up to 10x, might give ya a bit more range out of it. Not really sure about the retical though on the Nightforce, I am a little more familiar with the Leupolds retical.

I like this one, but have never seen one to fondle.

You know I own the Nikon Buckmaster 6x18-40 with BDC and side focus. That is a pretty decent glass for the price. I paid like $380 shipped from Midwayusa at the time. The glass is clear edge to edge, very bright and you get a lifetime warrenty. That won't break the bank either. Nikon puts out pretty good glass for the money, check them out. Oh also they have a scope coming out in june I think just for the AR, here

Thanks for the input. I like the Nikon .223 scopes but would rather have a 30mm scope.  I'm leaning towards the Leupold 2.5x8 because if I wanted to I could easily mount it on my M14 if I wanted a variable optic.  Just don't see many 16inch rifles with that optic mounted on them for some reason.

When you decide let me know, I'm in the same boat, looking for a scope for my 16" middy. Now the Nikon I have on my bolt action is that nice so I might get another. $400 is about right for me to spend and I know what I'll get. Good luck.

Sweet rig pal....obviously all the choices you listed would fall into the category of fine china, however i am thinking that perhaps i would drop the acogs from the picture and focus on the leupy's and the NF's....just my vote, but the decision would only have 2 choices for me, both NF models are such exceptional pieces of glass that its a toss up.....however since your setup falls more into the range of a recon gun, i would prob. roll with the nxs cutie as opposed to popping the x32 model on a 18" SPR type.  Good luck on your choice

Here is a pic of a x32 on a 16" recon type

Myfishgear.com has the Monarch I linked to above for $799. That's almost unrealistically cheap for that scope, but of its lagit then its one hell of a steal! It is a 30mm unlike the m223s.

Got a new, sealed in box, Mark 4 3x9x36 MR/T Illuminated for a ridiculous price.  I know it's a few years old but and not exactly what I was looking for but for the price I couldn't pass it up.  Thinking if I don't like it I'll get some different knobs and throw it on a M14 and look for a 1x4.  I was about to go with the Nightforce 1x4 NXS but a buddy got me in touch with this Leupold and was able to get rings, stop by Noveske for another barrel, and a set of BUIS with the money I saved.  Pics and AAR to follow...
