I am trying to decide which scope to put on a DPMS 308.  I want a good one for long range shooting.  I am trying to stay around $1000.  I have been considering a Trijicon 5-20x50.  I have also looked at a Millet, Bushnell, and Nightforce.  Any opinions?  Any others to consider?  Any strong opinions on the Trijicon?

Probably a vortex pst.

Either the 1-5 or the 2.5-10 depending on how much "off the bench" shooting it's going to do. (around $600)

The new leupold 1-8 would also be pretty sweet if you're willing to put up with a lit reticle that isn't daylight visible. (will also probably be right at the edge of your price range)

EDIT:

I should have been a little clearer. A 5x starting power is going to limit the rifle to being a dedicated bench/bipod gun. IF you're building a paper puncher it will do fine. If you ever plan to shoot it off hand, you will probably want less mag or a dedicated red-dot

I like Millett but the LRS is HUGE!!! Check out the Nikon Monarch too, they seem to be very decent from what I hear.
