Okay so I'm getting my next build together I'm thinking about going with the Eotech 511 that opticplanet has for $359.99. It looks like a good price. Anybody find them cheaper and any experience with this praticular model good or bad?

the only problem you will find with that model is the lack of battery life... the n battery models are no longer being manufactured which is why the price has come down quite a bit. but if battery life is not what you are looking for i think that you would be more than happy with this or you could spend another 50 bucks and get the new xps 2 series, either way you will definitely enjoy an eotech i recently purchased the xps 3-0 and love it so far

I would go with the 512 (I did) for the AA battery power.

The AA's are far easier to buy, less expensive and last longer. And if you use lithium AA's the battery life is much longer.

I would say it truly depends on what your needs are. If you are not concerned about co-witnessing your iron sights with your optic than the 512 is a very affordable model to go with. If co-witnessing is a concern than I would look at either 517, 516, or the newer models in the XPS series which have a built in 7mm riser which will allow for co-witnessing. Having the riser already built into the optic will save you money. Also check your email for more info.

Go 512. I had a 511 & while I didn't have the battery problems I didn't trust it so I bought a 512 & sold the 511. The 512 can be had for that price on EBay or EE.

I have a 511, and while I put fresh batteries in every 6 months religiously, I have neever had it fail me.  Good price.   I say go for it.    Have had it since 2001, no issues at all.

The battery life of the "N" battery really sucks; and once inside the Eotech, the "N" batteries lose their juice even when not used.  I would get an alternative.

I'm not going to sell my 511, but I certainly wouldn't buy another one due to the limitations of the "N" batteries.  I'm planning on moving it over to a range gun that can have the batteries removed when in the case and buying an XPS or two for my serious social guns.
