So at the range last weekend I was bench shooting my AR around 100yds with my unmagnified eotech. I know that its parallax free but I was taught that with iron sights you use "clear tip, blurry target" so out of curiosity I would line my dot up with my front site post (no rear aperture flipped up)  I squeezed a couple out seemed like it was good to go but I didn't think much of it.

Is there any benefit of doing this or is it just waisting time?

The irons and the dot are 2 independent systems...it's one or the other...not both.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, somewhat of a confusing post, but with RDS you focus your eyes on the target, with irons you focus on the front sight post.

+1 info.  One or the other, not both.

Plus, 100m is not long range by any standard.

I knew some one would say it. I know 100 is not "long" but its not close when theres a nickel taped to the target.

Ive got multiple expert quals in the Marine corps which goes to 500yds (used to do it with irons) so its not like Im missing the target at 100yds

If you can see a nickel at 100m you don't need a scope.  Must have been a 0352; That eyesight would be handy to ID tanks at 3000m.
