Love the setup up except for.....

I noticed that once i have the mag in place, the dot becomes garbled. Once I move it out of the way, the dot is solid and crisp in the Comp C3. Aimpoint says it's the way your eye perceives the dot in different settings... I call BS on that. If my eyes were bad... there bad. Magnifying the dot shouldn't do anything but bring the foreground in closer.

Let me know if anyone out there has experienced this. I'm running a comp c3 on a LT 129 and LT pivot mount with the 3x... and yes they were purchased from authorized Aimpoint reseller and Laure Tactical... respectively.

You may want to turn the brightness down one click with the mag behind it.

Do you wear glasses?

What you describe is how an RDS looks to me without my Rx glasses as I have an Astigmatism.

On all four of my Aimpoint's the dot is not a dot, it's all garbled with or without a magnifier.

Edit to add: I do have a slight astigmatism in my right eye DOH

Could be astigmatism or something.

If I try to focus on my ML3's dot it looks like crap, but if I look past it to my target it is crisp. Maybe the magnifier really does cause your eye to perceive it differently.

If you magnify something that is garbled up then it will look even worse then it does when it’s not magnified. You just can’t see that it is messed up without the magnifier.

Just for the hell of it, I slapped my el cheapo 6-24 Tasco behind my surprisingly reliable Primary Arms M3 just to see what it would look like with a magnifier.  My dot went from crisp and round unmagnified to a distorted blur/smear on 6x.  It is still usable, but not as clear as I would have expected.  Maybe it would be better on lower power.

Magnifying the IMAGE produces a larger version of EVERYTHING,bigger "dot" and also larger "flaws".If you don't believe this compare the sharpness of an image on 6x and then again on 24x thru a high mag scope.Remember the magnifier is in front of your eye and enlarges everything thru it.Put it in front of the Aimpoint and note the difference ( but the field of view will be incorrect)

interesting perspectives from all. "exhogflyer" great point! Guess I'm more frustrated than anything.

I don't have astig. and the dot is clean w/out it. W/ the mag it turns to a smudge... and I suppose it could be enhancing what I normally cannot see.  Just about ready to sell the whole setup if I can't get this resolved. I've tried adjusting the power on the comp, but hasn't really helped

It affects the POI and POA for me. Perhaps I'm just not willing to accept I don't have perfect eyes!

I'm another one with astigmatism and the dot is also fucked up. I'm betting it's your eyes and not the 3X.

Sell it all and replace it with an ACOG.  If you need a RDS then add the small piggy back sight on top of the ACOG.   This

IMHO

Simple test to check if it's your eyes or the optic.

Look through the setup and find your flaw/blur/whatever

Now rotate the gun/optic around it's own axis while looking at your flaw/blur......is the flaw stationary? Or does it rotate?

If it's stationary, then it's your eyes.

If it rotates, then it's the optic/setup/something else.

so that's the test Aimpoint has on their sight(no pun intended)... assuming they are talking about a non-magnified dot.

But yeah, tried that on the comp c3 w/out mag and since there is no distortion, it's crystal clear. However, when I drop the 3x mag, it DOES in fact garble the dot and it DOES move with the rotation of the entire setup(mag and comp)

What to do, what to do

If you're not happy with it, sell it and replace it with an ACOG (TA11?) or a Burris XTR...

Was thinking that exactly

I put a M3 on my 15T. It was great. Then I got the 3X. I have three dots in my sights now, I chose the middle and shoot. It's my eyes that are seeing the three dots. I had a kid at the range that looked thru it and he saw a perfect dot. So I now put scopes on the new ones and I'm happy. I know if I need the 15T I can still count on it. Can I ever get my money back by selling them, I don't think so. I would trust them with my life.
