I am trying to figure out what optic I want to put on my carbine.
I like the ACOGs, but like some others don't know how useful the tritium would be. If it's that dark i will be using a light. The tritium is also expensive to replace when it goes out. I don't think the fiberoptic daytime would be something I would like either. The Trijicon Accu Point scopes have the same tritium "problems". I would like a short scope like the ACOG without the illumination. If possible I would like a mil-dot reticle but that isn't necessary. I doubt I will ever take a shot over 300 yards. Would a reddot scope with a 2moa dot be accurate enough at up to that range? I would like some magnification for my old eyes. Are my choices now limited to something like an Aimpoint with a magnifier, or is there something like a non illuminated ACOG? Jim |

Thanks. That's the kind of input I need.
If I just don't replace the tritium when it burns out I wonder if it would be worth the search to find a used one already burned out- if it's cheap enough. As for mildot reticle on a low power scope- that makes sense. I want a useful reticle though. I like the horseshoe reticle. How dependant is it on illumination? How hard is it to use the illuminated reticles during the day- the fiber-optic illuminated? Is precision that much more difficult than a "regular" crosshair reticle? Jim |

Keep looking for it on EE, TA01 can be found around $650 or so That would be doable. I have nearly another $1k to spend, but I need a bipod, more mags, some ammo until I start loading .223, a soft case, etc. I have a C-More on it right now, and when I get a riser block or high rings I also have a few Leupold and other scopes I can use- plus the iron sights of course. At a bare minimum I need a good light and a mount. I also need some rail covers. And more mags and ammo.
I thought about the bipod for longer range shooting, and that I could use one of the legs for a grip if I needed one. I don't have to have a bipod- it's something that's nice to have but not essential. I have optics that are decent for now. Jim |
