I am looking in to buying an Acog for my Flattop soon, but cannot decide on anything.  My main concern is the front sight post blurring the view.  Would the blur be less in on a 3x or 4x or is it even a problem?

Next, is eye relief.  Does .5" or 1" make a ton of difference?  Can you post your thoughts and even pics of different models on your rifle?

Thanks

Dude there are a billion pix of setups on this site just search for them.  Yes, with any ACOG you are going to see the FSB some.  Eye relief on the 4X sucks and it does make a difference.  If you try to hold your weapon in any position other than within the given eye relief as in shooting from cover you will have a tough time with the eye relief.

Recently picked up a TA31-RCO and I love it..... You dont even know the front sight post is there unless you look for it and then I would say you barely notice it at all.
As far as eye relief I have no complaints, but one that had a little more relief may be better depending on what you are using it for.

All and all wouldn't worry about the sight post blur and eye relief is a matter of use and opinion I guess.

The TA11 and TA31/TA01 are not a concern. The TA33 should be fine with a carbine length sight radius, but a midlength or longer and the FSB may be more in focus. I would not use any below 3X with a fixed FSB. A TR24 will work however with a 1.93 height Larue mount.

+1 I just mounted a TA01-NSN (4x) to my middy and agree with the above statement.

I'm currently running a TA-33 with an 18" Stealth with 13.2 rail and have an FSB in front of the rail.  You CAN see the shadow, but it doesn't prevent from seeing the target or doing any shooting.

At 4x or more magnification, the front sight post "disappears" although you may notice a faint shadow.

Regarding eye relief, I use the LaRue RCO ACOG mount and run it a little further back on the receiver without a BUIS and I have no eye relief complaints. I only do this because I am not comfortable in the "nose to charging handle" position, I like about two finger widths between my nose and the charging handle.

And regarding BUIS, Marines who are issued an ACOG don't get a fold down rear sight with it. There are no batteries to die on an ACOG and it is nearly indestructable.

Anyone know how the sight post looks on a midlength with a TA11 ?

It is a very faint shadow. Probably hard to even show in a pic.

Thanks for the replies, and "dude" i have looked at billions of pics, but i just wanted pics through the scope with a FSB to see a difference.  Now, i just need to worry about what model and reticle I want.  Too many options.

The following pic shows the faint shadow (although it's somewhat tough to see because of the background; it's circled) of the FSB through my ACOG. I recognize the FSB isnt' centered in the image––it's much more difficult to take reticle pictures than I thought, and what is pictured is a fair representation of what you will see through a 4x ACOG.

It's a TA31 on BCM middy. As others have mentioned, you see more of the FSB if you don't have the proper eye relief, and you will see it while using BAC until you focus on the zoomed image.
