I just picked up a Les Baer M4 carbine and have been thinking about optics.
I hace a C-More railway sight that I used in bullseye pistol before going with an UltraDot MatchDot.

Do I need a riser or mount block to use the C-More on my AR?

Until I decide which optic I want to go with- Eotech, Aimpoint, etc. I thought I might use this, since I already have it.

Try it out and see how you like the height, I guess is the only thing I can suggest.

Im pretty sure that the "Tactical" model of the C-More has a slight rise in it, but the only way to see if its too high or low, is to slap it on and see how you like it. From what I have seen, the Cmore's base is pretty thick, so it shouldn't be too bad, although the front sight post may be a bit obtrusive into the lens.

The front sight is what I wondered about. I will have to try it and see if it's too low. I was sorta hoping someone here had already tried it.
I just got the rifle today, and my wife and kids say I can't take it out of the box until tomorrow. I will find out then if I need a riser or not. I used to have a scope mounted on a Colt 6700 that I used with medium rings and an A.R.M.S. #5 riser block.

I don't know what it would look like, but I am tempted to try one of my UltraDot MatchDots on it. I like them on my pistols, and being able to dial a 2,4,6 or 8 moa dot helps in some shooting situations.

Be careful of those multi-retical select-a-size red-dots, I have seen them to tits up on 9mm AR15's before, which aren't exactly tough on the ol' shoulder

I just looked on C-More's website, it looks like the "Tactical" railway designed for co-witness is 2.5" overall height, and the normal Rail-Way C-more is 2.3" overall height, so you are a little over 3/16ths lower than the Tac model.

Now just looking at C-More's pics, it looks as if the Tactical model gives you a lower 3rd co-witness, and if so, then the normal Railway should give you closer to an absolute co-witness, however I am just speculating on this. It LOOKS as if it will work, but I cant say for sure

ETA

They do state that the non-tac models will not co-witness on their website, so take what I've said for what its worth

These are pretty tough. I have one on one of my Ruger MkIIs and another on my SA .45acp. They have a lifetime warranty- which is why so many of the bullseye shooters use them.

I won't use one though, but I will at least try the C-More on it since I already have it. I will probably get an Aimpoint or other sight sometime, but I will use the iron sights mostly- at least for a while. I will mount one of my Leupold scopes to work up a load.

FWIW I ran a C-More ATAC (covered full M4 upper receiver with built in A2 rear sight) for 14 months in Iraq and it was bomb proof (literally).

I beat the crap out of that thing; it was worn down to bare metal by the end of my tour and the protective ring was totally dinged/gouged...the lens held up fine, though.

The only problem I had with it was one of the head of one of the adjustment screws (which are very small) stripped on me.

At the end of my tour I sent it back to the factory and they rebuilt it like new and returned it with new parts, battery, allen wrench, etc.

It would easily be my favorite sight if not for one thing:  the A2 rear sight is fixed so it is always in your FOV.  C-More recommends setting up the dot so that it is above the the front site post as opposed to a true co-witness.  Not a big deal but it does block your view a bit.

Since yours doesn't have the built in rear sight this, of course, won't be a factor in your set up.

That is very interesting. It would only be good if I stayed with the C-More sight, but if I do having the rear sight built into the mount looks good.

I wonder if that rear sight works with a standard FSB? I need to check and see.

Im pretty sure its designed to work with a flat top upper and fixed front sight base.

Sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug. It looks like I'm the windshield this time.

Thanks,

Joshua you're kinnin me.

I had an A.R.M.S. #5 mount riser that I think I sent with a Colt I sold.

Nice optics.

I was asking about using the C-More on my AR because I had used it, and thought of it as a pistol reddot sight. It might not be as tacticool as an Eotech, etc. but it should work.

What dot size are you using? I think mine is an 8moa dot. I can buy a different LED module for it, but I would like to only have to buy one.
Is a 2moa too small?
