| Can anyone tell me if there is a problem with mounting an Eotech 512 model to the upper forearm grip of an AR using just a standard Picatinny rail flush to the upper foregrip? I notice that alot of the co witness mounts attach to the carry handle and appear to be slightly elevated above the grip. Has anyone ever mounted an Eotech to just a Picatinny rail sitting flush on the upper fore grip? My concern is wether this adversely affects accuracy and if it could also expose the sight to more muzzle shock than maybe a co witness mount would. Any info or advice would be grealty appreciated. |

By upper foregrip I'm assuming you mean the handguard. Optics should be mounted to the upper receiver, not the handguard. ESPECIALLY if it's not a free floated handguard. I'm assuming you have an upper with a fixed carry handle? If so, swap it out for a flat top if you plan on running optics. You'll be much happier. |

Your accuracy is going to be quite poor and variable as the handguards are not a solid mounting point. Unless you're just shooting close-in and don't really care about tight groups...(but if that's the case why bother with including an Eotech then?) It sounds like you're possibly considering some form of carry-handle mount as well (cantilever style?) and after using one I'm not a fan of that choice either since it does experience vibration and some movement. I wasn't happy with mine and it's in a box with a bunch of other ill-advised purchases I've made over the years......sigh. If you want cowitness with BUIS, mount the EOtech on the upper receiver and pick up some flip-up aftermarket rear sights. Unless you have a fixed carry handle, in which case I'd just stick with the irons and get another upper for the eotech. |
