Dumb question but I have never handled a LaRue mount of any kind.  Does the lever that secures the mount make direct contact with mounting surface or is there some type of a barrrier/plate between the steel lever and the aluminium upper/mounting surface?

The part with the arrow pointing to it is what grabs the rail
