Okay I Currently have a Stage Model 2T and am running a Aimpoint Comp 3 with 2moa dot.
I will say the Aimpoint is absolutely GREAT and recommend it along with the LaRue mount to anyone.

But I have always wanted a ACOG and was looking at the TA31H (4x mag.). I want something that is magnified for the longer shots to be a bit more accurate and I know i could get a magnifier for my Aimpoint, but i really like the ACOG.
Now anyone that has used one how do they fair at close range shooting say 5-10 yards? I shoot both eyes open so I am just wondering how difficult it would be to acquire target and be accurate with the magnification.
Sorry if the question has been beaten to death...

Also people that have tried the TA31H how do you like it and would you recommend it?

Thanks

The ACOG is pretty much a midrange optic but it can be used up close with some practice.  A traditional red dot will have much faster target acquisition at 5-10 yards but the ACOG is every bit capable of quick speeds at that distance.  The ACOG was designed to be used with both eyes open so you will really like it.  I say go for it and just practice with it up close.

I have a TA31H that I love very much. After practicing and running drills with it I have become very fast with it. I also use an Aimpoint T-1 on an offset mount with it, but don't feel I need to anymore.
I'll probably use the T-1 on another build. Just try before you buy. ACOG's aren't for everyone...
Also, if it's under ~10 yards I don't try to pinpoint the target with the reticle. I usually point and shoot and always hit torso sized targets with ease.

Here's mine:

Here is a trick when using a ACOG close range.

Get the front cover for the ACOG. When going close range, close the front cover. Use both eyes and the chevron will look like a redot.

I have had Eotech, Aimpoint and ACOG.
Now that being said I also shoot my 556 with a Leupold scope.
I did not like the ACOG for the simple reason of eye relief.  I felt as if the Optic was about to hit me in the eye. (this comes from experience with my muzzle loader) :)

I know a lot of guys that LOVE them, but for me it was a bit of an uncomfortable placement.

Just my 2 cents on this.

Loved the Eotech, Loved the M3, Love my scopes!

Which model do you have, TA31? It has a notoriously short eye relief. The TA11 has a much better eye relief.

Another question more preference i guess then anything.

Pretty much sold on the TA31 and I like the horse shoe reticle, but for those that have the TA31's what reticle do you prefer and why would you consider it better then the others?

Make sure you try it before you buy it. The ta31 have bad eye relief, you gotta be right up on it. I wanted one at first, and tried the ta11H, loved it and never looked back. I used the ta31f in the military, but the eye relief on the ta11 series sold me. Just something to think about.
