I've been looking at these two sights for awhile now to put on a shotgun.  Does anybody have experience with these sights?  I'm looking for input on the LED and photo sensor and how well they work in bright and low light.  Thanks.

I have the TNVC RDP-II on my 870P Magnum, love it. Works perfectly in bright & low light, no issues at all.

That is the exact set up I have.  Is the RDP at a good height for you? One concern of mine is that it would be too low and I would have to buy a riser.

I've heard that the RDP-II doesn't work in darkness or extremely low light. Is that true? I was seriously considering an RDP-II until I heard that.

I have tried it out in minimal lighting conditions & had no problems. That being said, my home is never pitch black, we have led nightlights that cast a dim blue light on the floors throughout the house. If your home is very dark at night I would look elsewhere but for my needs the RDP-II is a hell of a bargain & works perfectly.

Forgot to add, even if I did lose power before an intrusion & the house was completely dark, I have an Insight Technology M3 Tactical Illuminator mounted on my shotgun which lights up the room quite well.

It's almost too low but not an issue. A riser would be a plus but isn't needed. My thoughts were, if the optic went out I would still have the bead visible which is the case with my setup.

I've read many great reviews on the TNVC one.

I also have heard that the RDP does not work in complete darkness but I'm not so worried about that as it's never a good idea to shoot without being able to see or identify your target anyway.  I figure a weapon light will provide enough ambient light.

I own the original FF as well as the FFII. In bright light, the red dot is plenty bright enough to use. I haven't found any situations in which it washes out. In low light, the Fastfire II dot dims and strobes quickly. When a light is actuated, the dot responds very quickly.

I just want to jump in here and mention that the RDPII is a great little sight for range use and training.  However, it was never intended as combat sight and we stress this to anyone looking to purchase it.  We do a lot of training and were tired of busing $450 Doctor and J-Point sights on barricades or doing entry drills.  That's a lot of money to throw away.  So, we set out to offer a low-cost alternative to the expensive minis.  While they can take abuse (I have one on my 870 and have had it on an AK47), I would not feel comfortable selling it to you as anything other than a range/training sight.

We would rather lose a sale than someone go into harm's way with a sight not intended for a fight.

That being said, the RDPII performs exceptionally in bright light, and auto-adjusts for lower light.

The only thing I wish the TNVC model had was an on/off switch like the Burris. Otherwise it is a great optic for the money.
