So.. I took my virgin M&P15X to the range today and fired a couple hundred rounds through it.  I quickly realized that at 25yards the round would hit down the lower left of the target.  However, my friends Colt was dead on center at the same yardage.  I made sure to aim both rifles the same and saw different results.  I was using the stock iron sights but I'm wondering if they need adjusting.  The rear flip down sight seems to be centered but I have no way of really telling.  So, what are my options?  I appreciate your feedback!!

Yes.

Few, if any, rifles come from the factory already zeroed.

Remember to zero for the bullet weight you will be using most often.

Edit: spelling

Booyah,

Don't worry about being a noob,or asking questions, that is how we learn. Take a look at the link above and get your rifle zeroed. ( might wanna find a front site tool to borrow or buy).

Have fun with the M&P!

Survivorman...I've never had to sight any of my other firearms, incredible as that may seem... I know you are not trying to be an ass but this is my first AR and I've run into a situation I've never had before.

^ Yep. That's precisely why the sights are adjustable. You'll want to adjust for elevation (up and down) with the front sight post, and windage with the rear sight.

First, though, make sure your rear sight is set to the proper range (elevation) setting on the drum. See your owner's manual if any questions on that.

This. I zero my rifle for the tactical/defense/SHTF ammo I have stored up, and just adjust my aim when I use the cheap wolf stuff at the range. the Improved Battle Sight Zero is how I sight my AR in.

Do this.......pick the ammo your planning on stockpiling and zero in with it.....your POI is going to be different between different types of ammo....dont get discouraged....your barrel is a 1/9 twist correct?  I would go with something in the 55gr 5.56 flavor   good luck

I got a T-1/mount combo from LaRue, put it on my rifle ant went out to zero it at 100. Straight out of the box, it was right on, so I flipped up my new MBUS to check that, too, and that was also right on... Oh yeah, the upper was new, too and elevation was fine. I guess I got 3x lucky
