I received my new Aimpoint ML3 today from a reputable ebay vendor (please no you shoulda bought it from LaRue comments!). I take it out the package, put the little 3 volt in the battery compartment with the positive side up towards the cap, flip up the caps, and proceed to look

through the optic and turn the rotary knob clockwise, waiting with anticipation for that little 2 MOA dot to appear. Nothing. I reread the instructions, double check the battery. Still nothing. I flip the battery over the opposite way. Nothing. I happened to have a voltmeter and checked the

battery. 2.89 volts it read. I'm not sure if volts represent battery life as I'm no electrician, but I would guess so. I doubt I'd receive a bad battery, but I'm gonna get some more shortly to double check. According to the Aimpoint instructions, I possibly have a defective rotary switch. I just

sent the vendor an email telling them  the problem, and that if it's the switch, I'd like a replacement. Without me paying a dime for shipping too. I'm pretty pissed because I was looking forward to trying out the ML3 this weekend at the range, but those plans are obviously fucked now

(unless the battery  (crossing fingers as I type) is bad ). I'm just curious as to how many of you have heard of this or have had this problem happen to you...

Wholly shit Mr patience... you only try one battery and then email the Vendor... Try a new battery first before you have a cow....

Yes, I know I should've waited to email the vendor, but I was pretty sure the switch was the problem. Being upset can sometimes distort your judgment. Anyway, i did try another new battery and still no dot. So the email was merited in the end.

So, there are NO reputable vendors on EBay?

Should've bought it from Larue.  Now that's reputable.

Thanks for your useless comment . Anyone have anything USEFUL to say about this problem, besides people trying to bust my balls about where I bought my ML3 from?

If the vendor won't take care of you I am sure Aimpoint will.  Heard anything yet?

At this point, the best thing you can do is contact Aimpoint to get it fixed. As far as useless comments regarding your Aimpoint problem here, you need to realize that you have crossed over into near blasphemy because you appear to have a problem with an Aimpoint optic (which is rather unheard of) and they are very well respected around here. A lot of people here are likely to assume that either you do not have a true Aimpoint (clone of some sort) or are simply trying to degrade Aimpoint for some reason. If you were having this problem with an Eotech, it would have been accepted at face value with no questions asked (yet more answers forthcoming). All in all, it just isn't common for people here to report problems with the Aimpoints in general.

I'm going to wait to contact Aimpoint until I hear from the vendor. I'd like the vendor to exchange the ML3 with a new one (because they have more) without me paying for shipping. Worst comes to worst, I'll pay shipping one way and bite the bullet on $10 instead of waiting

probably 5-6 weeks (that's how long another ARFCOM member waited for his rotary switch to be fixed) for Aimpoint to fix it. I completely understand about the "near blasphemy." Aimpoints are highly regarded everywhere. In the ML3 manual troubleshooting section, it lists a bad

rotary switch as a possible cause for no dot appearing. For them to put that in there, this problem must happen occasionally. Let's say rarely instead. That is why this thread is here. To find out more information about bad rotary switches. I wish I knew how to post pics on here so

i can show that this is a genuine Aimpoint ML3.  I made the "useless comment" comment because I kindly asked that no one tell me that I should've bought it from LaRue. That's what the guy did.

You do not need to explain your "useless comment" statement to me at all (I was not criticizing you at all) but there are certain people here who will become quite defensive of Aimpoints at the drop of a hat. It would certainly be more convenient for you if the vendor will simply replace yours with a good optic to avoid any delay or hassle on your end (hope they do this for you).

Thank you for the support Hopefully I get a response tomorrow. I'm curious as to what the vendor has to say in order to resolve the issue. I saw a fair amount of feedback for Aimpoints (mostly H-1, ML3, and M3) while looking through about 10 pages of the seller's feedback and it was all positive. A "top rated seller" with over 6000+ feedback (99.9% positive) will not want negative feedback on a high price item like an ML3. I'm confident they will take care of it. Hopefully promptly. If the vendor screws me, I will get to make my first (and hopefully only call) to Aimpoint's customer service.

The only problem I have personally experienced w/an Aimpoint is an M4 w/a bad rotary switch, had to do the whole 6-week trip to Sweden thing to get it fixed.

I just got off the phone with John. Great guy, btw. Anyway, the optic is not defective. Here's the problem: A TINY batch of ML3's went out without the little rubber stopper in the battery cap. I just so happened to get one of those. They have a new battery cap being shipped out to me today. F**king awesome customer service!! I feel like a schmuck as I should called Aimpoint right off the bat, but hey, everybody makes mistakes. Sorry if I ruffled any Aimpoint feathers (which I will soon grow myself)

Oh yeah, I opened the battery compartment on the ML3, pressed down the battery really hard, turned the knob and what do you know, a pretty little red dot appeared. I'm gonna go order LT-129 right now. From LaRue

I'm glad they came through for you (not surprised). I think you will like the Larue LT-129 mount (I like mine with my Comp ML2).

I'm gonna give a big +1 to Tate Defense (vendor). Here's their response:

"Dear nolan7120,

Hi Nolan,
I apologize for the delay of my response because we were having technical difficulties with our system here in the office which have now been rectified.

All my items are 100% authentic, brand new in box, never used or opened, came as packaged and as delivered by the manufacturer.

To compensate with your inconvenience let me know if you want items in my store and I will give you special price.

I hope you're not mad at me and still do business in the near future.

Sincerely,
Asonja

- tatedefense"

That makes up for waiting 2 days to respond. They do stock ACOG's and I just so happen to really want a TA11. But I need to sell some gear first to fund that transaction...
