Alright guys... EOTECH...AIMPOINT...TRIJICON... what do yall think? Personally I have dealt almost completely with EOTECH... I like the reticle and the heads up display and the ability to co-witness... if you go with the 512 and take advantage of AA batteries I think its hard to beat. In the same breath I know that AIMPOINT's have a battery life just shy of eternity. I think you get less of the whole picture with the aimpoint and although you can co-witness...I don' think it matches up with EOTECH. Now the main question I have is durability and toughness... I know they both have been through the "military drop test" which I would LOVE to know what the test consist of... I have dropped one of my EOTECH's on the pavement and haven't noticed any issues...are aimpoints tougher? or is it just situational? Looking for more info and personal observations and preferences... Oh and as far as TRIJICON goes... don't have the money for them although I have had some exposure through friends... like what I have seen but lack the range time with it.

The .mil seems to be able to break them all with equal efficiency.

Eotech and Aimpoint are the two that are more comparable, so here's my opinion.  Similar to you, I think the Eotech is just a better sight.  The Aimpoint is superior in most ways like durability and battery life, but I think the Eotech offers enough of a speed advantage under more conditions to be worth it to me.  As for Co-witness, they are the same.  Either can be had with absolute or lower 1/3 mounting options.  I'll say this: They both require Iron sights, but the Eotech especially better have a good set.

Sometimes I wonder whether the Aimpoint is durable enought to not even require BUIS, at least the rear.  Being able to use either as ghost ring in CQB, would you rely on the Aimpoint's durability strongly enough to go without BUIS?  Why not?

ACOG's are a HUGE advantage over irons for GP.  Cost is the only obstacle.  If you're shooting is all under 50 yds, you might like the RDS better, but many many shooters use ACOGs in CQB successfully.
