Here's my dilemma. I have 2 different rifles that sport and Eotech 512 and Aimpoint ML3 (will have it Mon actually) that I want to put 3x magnifiers on. I have 3 different magnification routes I'm contemplating and am in need of some opinions. The Eotech 512 will be directly on the flat top with no riser. The ML3 will be in a LT-129 cantilever mount.
1.) For the Eotech setup, buy a LT-670-EO ($168) and a Primary Arms 3x magnifier ($79). For the ML3, buy a Burris Tripler ($189) and a LT-649-30 ($150). Total cost is $586 plus shipping. OR 2.) For the ML3, buy an Aimpoint 3x magnifier with either LT-602 or LT-649-30 combo from LaRue ($595 or $617). For the 512, buy either an LT-670-EO ($168) and just bounce the Aimpoint 3x mag back and forth from setup to setup. $763-785 plus shipping. OR 3.) Same as #2 but instead of getting LT-670-EO for the Eotech setup, get a Primary Arms 3x magnifier with their QD mount ($99). Total cost is $696-718 plus shipping. I like #1 because it's the cheapest route (trying to keep everything under $600), and both rifles get their own (economical) magnifier. These are not duty guns either. I like #2 because I get the better magnifier with better eye relief, but I don't like the cost, and the fact that I only get 1 magnifier for 2 guns, but the latter is no biggie. I like #3 because I get 2 magnifiers for 2 rifles. The better Aimpoint mag goes with the ML3, making that gun more SHTF worthy in the process. I'm just hesitant about the Primary Arms mag and QD mount not lining up perfectly with the Eotech. If that was the case, I'd be better to ditch their QD mount and just get an LT-670-EO (which'll bump the price up to $864 plus shipping which is too much $$) so I can center the reticle properly. I'm leaning towards #1 unless someone can talk me out of it. Spending $600 or less is very important. Opinions before I drop the $$? |

Sounds like a good plan. The 512 is a long unit. Will the 512 + magnifier/LaRue + BUIS all fit on your upper receiver? Yeah, I have a YHM Diamond Specter rifle length forearm on the rifle the Eotech is gonna go on, so I've got plenty of rail to work with |

Oh, you're putting your EOTech on the FF handguard? Not sure if I'd do the same given that you're sacrificing the rigidity of your upper receiver and optics on handguards are a no-no, because of potential zero drift.
I'd go with an XPS myself, if you want to stick with absolute cowitness and for everything to fit on the handguard. |

The Eotech will be mounted on the upper receiver but actually sit over the gap between the upper and the quad rail. I'm going to use the last slot on the upper for the 512. The quad rail sits flush against the upper and the upper rail is lined up perfectly with the upper receiver rail, and the YHM quad rail is secured nice and tight with loctite. It's not going anywhere. Since the Eotech is technically going to be mounted to the upper, it should be ok I'm guessing. |
