Tired of trying to use low power binoculars for seeing (or straining to see) hits at the range.
Any opinions on a lower cost spotting scope? I've read many of the reviews on Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops etc and it seems the more inexpensive scopes are hit or miss on quality and longer distance focus. Trying to keep it under $200. Thanks, |

Thanks, I bought a Konus 7120 off of ebay for $200 shipped. A little shoddy construction (lens cap doesn't fit, can see glue exposed, crappy tripod, red dot marking magnification started to rub away) but all in all it's not a bad spotting scope for $200. I don't have any experience with others though so i can't really compare. Haven't tested it past 100 yards either, will be doing that soon. At the range I see a lot of Bushnells and Leupolds... http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=450494 http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=457530 |

Champion Shooters Supply has a good selection of spotting scopes at various price points: http://www.championshooters.com/store/home.php?cat=286
I've also found some good optics deals on the "SWFA List": http://www.samplelist.com/default.aspx?prod_type=4&hide_sold=False I use a Burris Landmark 20x-60x-80mm Spotting Scope. It's big, and the eye relief leaves something to be desired, but it's clear and a good spotter for the money, IMO. They can be had for under $200. |
| A Bushnell Trophy will do what you want at the price you want but I find angled eye pieces much better from an ergonomics perspective than the straight one I have now. Mine is maxed out at 200 yards with .22 holes. You can clearly spot at that range. 300 yards I just cant holes see very well at all. |

Thanks for all the info.
Looking online and comparing, I found a Celestron under a $100. Reviews are mixed, but users seem to be good with it. If it works a few years for the type of range I need (300 yrd max.), I'll be happy. Anything is better than binoculars! |
