hi guys,
Im lookn at getting a scope for a larue Stealth 20" upper, will be shooting 68gr MHP. main uses are: Coyote Hunting, Distance plinking, and target shooting i was looking at the Accupoint line from Trijicon and like the 1.25-4x25 but am affraid it wont have enouf zoom. so that leaves me the 30mm is up to 10x tube or the 1in goes up to 9x. are those a high enough zoom for these apps? an suggestions on other scopes? |

Magnifiaction requirements are really based off your personal vision and need for precision. I can shoot MOA or just under with about 4X per 100 yards. I need double that to do it easily and comfortably. How far do you want to shoot? How small of a target do you want to see and hit? If you want to do a golf ball shoot with buddies at 200 yards I'd get something over 10X for sure. For hitting steel shilouettes at 200 you dont need any magnification at all. To me a 9 or 10X scope is essentially the same and just enough for 100 yard target shooting (and know the optic was NOT what held me back) and usable for 200 yards but my vision begins to make precise reticle placement and seeing small objects a little difficult. Consider something with higher magnification like a NF 3.5-15x50... much more low light utility with a 50mm objective and you can make things out 50% further. You can always dial a 15X scope down but you cant dial a 10X scope in further than 10X.
IMO a 1-4X scope is TOTALLY out of place on a SPR. I run a 1-4X scope... on my micro SPR/SBR type rifle. For a full sized precision rifle get a full sized precision scope. |

Take a look at the Vortex Viper, with the parallax adjustment on the left side of the scope. I recently purchased one, and couldn't be more pleased !!! It should be perfect, given you have a 20" rifle barrel. I put mine on a carbine, and it's way too much scope for the carbine. This thing is built like a tank, very heavy duty, and the optics are very good, almost as good as my Leupold VX-111 long range with varmit reticle, at about one-half the cost of the Luepold !!! It comes with a "no questions asked "lifetime warranty" too. They designed it for small calibre, and very large calibre, so it has to be tough to take the recoil / impact of the very large calibres, as well. I doubt if the Viper will ever break (unless it's mistreated), due to it's extra heavy construction. It's a fairly small family owned company, and extremely pleasant to deal with. They are an Arfcom sponsor too, and have a q&a in the "Industry" section , but I did all my dealings with them on the phone. IMHO, it's worth checking out. Bang-Flop. |
