| Ive got a DPMS AR with a standard 16inch barrel and an A3 upper. I purchased an aimpoint ML3 along with a mount and a Troy Flip up rear sight from LaRue Tactical. Im planning on going total tacticool with this rifle. But its gonna take me a while to get it done its expencive. Anyway I mounted the Aimpoint and the rear sight. Im using the standard gas block sight tree at least that was my plan. The aimpoint is great. I sighted it in at 50ish yards and started smacking around a whole bunch of steel plates and things at 100 yards. I then flipped up the rear sight and turned off the aimpoint to sight in the iron sights. First problem the way the aimpoint sits and the rear sight sit the aimpoint becomes and obstruction and I cant see the bottom of the ring so all I get is kinda a 3/4 rear apiture with the 1/4 missing on the bottom of course. I went ahead and attempted shooting anyway NOT GOOD rounds almost flew over the berm at 100 yards. So I removed the aimpoint and moved to the 50 yard range and moved walked to about 25 yards. Their is no way im gong to have enough adjustment to get the rounds on paper at 100 yards. With the removable carry handle mounted im hitting perty high also so I purchaed a Taller front sight post from Bushmaster DPMS was out of stock. It has not com in yet. When I get it im going to shoot it with the cary handle and see how it does. Anyway I dont know if this Troy rear BUIS is going to work with the factory front sight even with the extended front sight post and Im kinda annoyed that I was unable to get a clear sight picture with the iron sights with out removing the aimpoint. unless thats normal, that you would ditch the optic and go to the iron sights. I am planning on adding a low profile gas block and removing the factory sight tree as well as adding a free floated quad rail handgaurd of some kind with the flip up troy front sight then eventually a vertical hand grip and a weapon light of some kind. I just don't have the money yet. Am I going to beable to get this rear sight to work with the factory front sight tree or am I going to have to come up with money faster than expected to add the rest of the junk to make it work? |
