I have a RRA Predator Pursuit upper being shipped to me right now. I need some advice on what rings/mounts I can use to mount a Leupold 3-9x40. I would love to have a LaRue or GG&G quick detach base and ring unit but I cannot dish out the money for one of those at this time. I would really like to have something that is quick detach so I can swap the scope between the AR and my Rem 700. What height do I need for clearance on a 40mm objective? Can I go with Mediums (1/2") rings? I have seen some Warne quick detach rings but was unsure if those would work on a picatinny rail since they are made to go on a weaver base.

I have a Nikon Monarch 5x20x44 on my Predator/Pursuit.  I used hight Leupold Mk4 rings.  With a Magpul PRS, I barely need to raise the cheekpiece to fit.

I think the Leupold rings will work well to swap to another rifle, assuming it also has a picatinny rail (so the spacing between rings is consistent) - as it just takes a 1/2" wrench or socket.

Pre-Magpul picture:

I found this rifle really likes the 75 gr Privi ammo:     ~1/2" at 100 yards

Do you think you could have gone with medium rings, or would they be to low?

probably could have done medium.  my advice is try medium, and order from SWFA - that way, if they are too low, it is just a shipping charge to return them for the next size up.

I just did that with burris rings for my millet dms for a fn/fal - low was too low, so needed medium.  Returned no fuss
