Looking for a scope that is: 1) Lightweight (<10 oz) and 2) Compact (<10 in.)

Something that could be mounted on a short AR15 and not weigh it down.

magnified? TA33

non-magnified? T1

hate to say it but /thread.

Would really love to roll my eyes and say something pithy, but Chapperjoe pretty much nailed it.

Pick your acog if you want magnified.  You have plenty of choices, but it doesn't get better for compact and tough.

I am buying the scope for magnification.

Is there anything less expensive than the ACOG's that is still 1)compact and 2)lightweight?

Not that compact.

Figure you should look at 1-4X24 scopes.

Look at the Bushnell Elite 4200 1.25-4X

Thanks...I have looked at the Bushnell Elite 4200.  It's a quality scope.  But it's too big.

Aren't there any competitors to Trijicon that make similar sized scopes like the ACOG?

the ta33's on the (old) ee trade for 700-750.
for what you get, it's an absolute steal.

vis-a-vis the 1-4 suggestion,,,,
having just acquired a nightforce 1-4 after having all the cheap 1-4's I will say this:
you get what you pay for.

save up for a ta-33

and as if '/thread' and 'you get what you pay for' aren't enough, here's another arfkomism:
'buy once cry once'.

but seriously, sub 700$, combat-useful magnification, under 10oz and still usable?
1 used ta01's pop up around 500 from time to time.
2 a H-1 and po-boy combo might come out to 600$ or so....
save an extra 250$ if you go with a C3 but weighs more.
3 a carry handle (50$) and a 3x colt scope (250)?

IOR tries, and they're ok, but heeeeeeavy.

the ta33's are really revolutionary all around: price, performance, size... all winners.
how could anyone compete with a ta33?
even if they got the size and weight down, the eye relief is almost magical.
it's like a ta-11's leaner meaner little brother.

I'm till thinking though.....

IOR Valdada has their new 1x-4x 32mm scope called the "Pitbull" coming out about now. The big deal is that it's a true 1x.

Although you'll be paying Trijicon ACOG prices for it.

And at 23 ounces, it's almost double the weight. Although with adjustable zoom, the design needs a lot more glass (and controls) than say a fixed magnification Trijicon TA01 or whatever you'd hold up as comparable.

300$ but vaproware.

the burris 1-4 seems to get good grades, but pricey and probably too heavy.

Leupold VX3s are generally light compared to other brands.  The new VX3s have very nice glass and the 1.5-5x20 is under 10 ounces.
