I was looking at the Nightforce unimount, and considering throwing it on my AR. The mount has an inherent 20 MOA built into it, so will this be an issue with the AR? In other words, is it better to have a mount with no forward cant on an AR?

It's not really an issue for most scopes, though most AR mounts don't have an offset.
If you're shooting relatively short range, like up to 300 yards, it won't help, but it won't hurt either. Generally, scopes are adjusted for the upper half of the elevation range, and the lower half pretty much goes to waste, as it's rare to need to adjust a scope down in elevation very far. An offset mount helps with that by giving you more range, and even at short ranges, it lets you set the scope down in the adjustment area that usually goes unused. Again, it doesn't matter much for practical purposes until you get out to 500 yards and beyond, but it doesn't hurt either. |
