I want to mount a Weaver Classic Extream 2.5-10x scope on my AR. I prefer and in order to get the 'Dual X' reticle I will have to get a 56mm objective lense. I can get the same scope with a 50mm obj lense but I'll have to settle for the German reticle.
Is the Dual X reticle complete thin line cross with a dot at the center? And the German reticle is the same but the top line is missing to make more of a T with a dot?
I prefer the traditional cross type reticle. These Weaver scope have illuminated reticles which doesn't matter to me either way.
Can someone post a pic of the German and Dual X so I can be sure before i order?

Does mounting a 56mm objective lense pose any mounting issues on an AR that 50mm would not?
My ARs are flattops with standard A2 front sights.
I don't need quick release lever type mounts, thumb screw type will be fine. The Weaver scope has 4 inches of eye relief.
What mount or rings should I use with this application?

Thanks for your time.

Just curious, but if you prefer the Dual X reticle... shouldn't you know what it looks like before hand?

For mounting, depends on if you shoot NTCH or not. Most will recommend a one piece mount such as a LaRue, I personally use a ADM mount, but they are both quick detach which your not looking for.

Anyways, I prefer the German #4

Here's a big thread on the Classic Extreme with lots of pics and info:

Objective size usually isn't an issue with an AR, as it needs to be mounted higher than on traditional rifles.  The usual goal is to mount it around the same centerline height as the iron sights are above the rail, which is 1.4".  You'll see a bit of blur from the front sight at lower mags, but it'll go away above 4x or so.

Forward offset is the other issue, and how much you need depends on the scope, stock, and your shooting style.  The best bet is to figure out where the eyepiece needs to be relative to the charging handle (above it, in front of it, etc), and find a mount or rings that puts it in the right position.

I'm about to update this page, probably later today, with interesting stuff like the new Bobro mount, and GG&G's new extended mount.

Here's the Big List of AR15 one-piece mounts, including sections on rings and extended rails:
