I think this will be the first year i will take a AR15 out for deer hunting. Just wondering what type of optics you guys are running on your hunting rifles.

Well, I'm takin' mine out with a Trijicon Compact ACOG TA33hg...if I can take delivery on the darn thing before deer season opens.  Forever on backorder.  Good for 200 yds at least, adjusted for .223, both eyes open.  If I don't use it for deer...definately for pig hunting.  Good luck!

I've used a TA01 for years and taken 6 deer with it. Got sorta tricky on a big buck trailing a doe past me at 20' in thick brush. Litte too much x for that. But it got done.

This year it's looking like my amber chevroned TA33. Should be ideal for the heavy cover I hunt.

I've always thought that a TR24 would be a fantastic hunting optic for an AR15.  Depending on what your shooting....most 223 "slayings" will happen within 200 yards.  To that end, a 1-4X variable with a fiber optic reticule would be awesome.

A BAC'd ACOG would be great option too - such as the TA33 or another 3X version.  Eye relief on a hunting-inspired ACOG set up would be important....at least to me.

A NF 1-4 (either NP1 or FC2) would also be a fantastic scope....if you've got $1250 to burn.

Deer, hogs and coyote AR, I use a Burris Fullfield II 2-7x 35mm w/ Bal Plex.  I can't really find in faults other than the rear eye piece turns w/ power adjustments, which prohibits a rear Butler Creek lens cover.  Works for me out to 500 yards.

Deer at 500y with a 5.56 is substantially dicey IMHO.  YMMV

Heck I wouldn't shoot a Maine whitetail with a 223 past 100.  YMMV.

I agree with an ACOG. The wide FOV with the TA31 will let you easily track a moving target if need be and has more than enough zoom to get a precise hit out to 200m. It would serve much more purposes other than hunting as well.

Burris 2-7x35 Fullfield II 2x is low enough for close shots and 7x works w/ Bal Plex to get hits at 500 yards.  I do not shoot deer, hogs or really coyotes at 500 yards.
I might try a coyote at 500 yards with the right conditions though.

I have the same scope on my ar mounted with burris XTR rings. This scope works great and i like the reticle.  The lens coating is pretty nice as well.
