Who is using this sight? My question: When you look through your sight do you get one (1) fine red dot or end up with a cluster? I''m a little disappointed with other so called mid-grade sights, looks to be a cluster of red dots & some of the clusters are not in that good of a circular pattern? Its like OK, which one of these dots should I sight in with? I'm going to pay the extra $$$ and go with Aimpoint if their dot is a "REAL" dot?

Thanks For Any Input,

DCS

Lots of people here are using the Aimpoint sights their reliability and ruggedness are second to none. There is only a single dot.

I'll second that. Using a ML2 and a M2, single clear dots in both.

For many people, the "red dot" of the Aimpoint is not viewed as a single "fine red dot."  This is most often due to an astigmatism.  Many people are not even aware that they have an astigmatism.  If the astigmatism is not too severe, it usually doesn't interfere with life's daily activities.  However, if you have one, it can definitely influence the way you perceive the dot on a red-dot sight such as an Aimpoint.  This is no fault of the sight, it's your eye's problem.

I've owned most every revision of the Aimpoint sight, including the ML2 and with every one, I've never viewed the dot as a perfect circle.  My astigmatism causes me to see the dot as what I describe as a "starburst."  Other people have different perceptions of the dot depending on the nature and severity of their astigmatism.

For some people, the distortion of the red-dot clears up when using the Aimpoint 3X magnifier.  Oddly enough, for my eye, the distortion clears up when using the magnifier with a 4 MOA dot, but not so much with a 2 MOA dot.

Aimpoints are intended to be used for rapid sight acquistion during self-defense/reflexive type shooting; not benchrest shooting.  If you have an astigmatism, just sight in using the "center of mass" of the red dot as your aiming point.  Even though the Aimpoint sight is not intended to be used for precision shooting, you can still obtain some rather precise groups using one, even if you have an astigmatism.  I recently fired the 10-shot group pictured below when sighting in my Aimpoint T-1 at 50 yards using 55 grain "ball" ammunition.
