All,

What is the consensus on the red dot sight that comes on the Sig 556?    Tough enough for battle?  Besides not being NVG compliant or waterproof,  any other issues?

Need to know if mine needs to be replaced with something more battle proven...

I'd like to know too...  Is it the same size as the Aimpoint T-1 or H-1?  I realize the price is way different but they look pretty similar...

They are made in China, but the sticker is black on clear, and is extremely difficult to read, even with a magnifying glass.  The 8000 hour battery life rating is on position 1, which is only usable with NV gear.  The "limited lifetime" warranty is only for the original purchaser, and any mods, including painting it, voids the warranty.

They're virtually identical to the $90 Konus Pro Atomic red dot sight, except the Konus has metal battery and W/E caps, while the Sig's are plastic, and the Konus has a big nut and recoil lug for mounting instead of a small allen screw.

It appears to me they use the same mount as the T1/H1, but I haven't verified it yet.  The mount on the Sig and Konus is glued to the sight, and has to be popped off to use another mount.  I used a plastic screwdriver and rawhide mallet to separate mine.

Here's a thread with some comparisons between the two over at calguns.  I'm working up a review of the Sig, but it's not ready to go yet.  I'd feel ripped off if I paid $150 or more, but it seems like a decent enough Chinese red dot for $80-90.

Sig continues to allow their marketing people to degrade their name...
