OK, I know I am going to be seen as an IDIOT, but I have seen these things ALL OVER this website in every picture thread. What is the "thing" mounted on the right side of this gun?? I am assuming some sort of range finder or laser, or both. Please dont flame, as I am just wondering.

That is the only time I have actually seen a use for it. Laser Guided Bombs. Not really for laser guided bombs, but to direct fire. Its used to pinpoint a target or an area to direct supporting fire usually from helicopter gunships. It can also be used as an illumination device for IR light so troops with night vision can see in the dark. Its primarily used at dark, since IR light is invisible to people without night vision. Atleast thats what our smaller version does the PEQ-15 Just for reference, there is no visible laser on the AN/PEQ-2A as with the AN/PEQ-15 [ATPIAL] or AN/PEQ-15A [DBAL-A2]. |
